Description
CoHousing Numero Zero is a project developed by “CoAbitare” Association in 2009. Its objective is to bring residents closer in order to create a collaborative lifestyle, less individualistic, even if own privacy and spaces are safeguarded. It is a participatory design which takes place every Saturday afternoon. Everyone has precise tasks: bank calls, relations with the municipality or the district associations, research of materials, etc.
The most important purpose is to create a flexible model, which could be doubled in its design phases – from the statute to trading dynamics – and above all as a lasting experience over time.
CoHousing Numero Zero is a small demonstration of how the vision of an eco-city can concretely come to life. It is characterized by a terrace, a garden, common areas and accommodations for 8 families living there, whose members all actively participate in the design and implementation of the project.
The association City in making was born in Rotterdam to take on the redevelopment of vacant properties, in the spirit of the historic housing cooperatives. An essential aspect is the combination of living and working: the upper floors of the buildings are made suitable for living and/or working; the ground floors are made available for production and collective use. Financial flow coming from the rent of the upper floors allows low-cost access to the ground facilities. Both workshops and multi-use spaces create the link between the residents and users of the buildings and the neighborhood. In this way, they play an active role in the city and in these new communities.
For a 10-year period, the property owner housing corporation Havensteder has transferred the managing of buildings placed in Rotterdam Noord to City in the Making, without any charge, but with taking on all responsibilities.
The association was born officially in 2006 as a heterogeneous group of professionals working in different fields who wanted to actively participate actively in the regeneration of the neighborhood and empowerment of youth, organizing innovative projects aimed at seeking new spaces of expression and artistic creativity.
Its aim is the development of an alternative point of view about the existing cultural and economic social model, through spaces, knowledge and tools sharing in the following areas: cultural production (music and art) critical consumption, sustainability, descriptive and common goods, information and media, active participation in the life of the territory, intercultural learning, access to knowledge, education, digital cultures and technological innovation.
